Mission & Beliefs
Mission and Vision
The youth ministry of Immanuel Lutheran Church brings together people of all ages to develop a welcoming and caring community who loves God and supports youth on their Christian faith journey.
Beliefs / Values
- Engage all ages of youth and support them as they foster genuine relationships with others.
- Anchor youth in the joys and traditions of the Lutheran faith and equip them to extend the love of Christ to their community and the world.
- Inspire joyful service to God and others.
- Strive to create an environment that is genuine, exciting and attracts youth and families, both members and non-members.
Children / Youth
We welcome children and adults into the church through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism as a sign of God's grace. Those who wish to have their child baptized during a worship service may contact Pastor Gretchen at to set up a time to meet. To mark this significant beginning of a child's spiritual journey, we present a Faith Chest where the newly baptized may keep items that will mark other milestones in the life-long walk with Jesus.
Children / Youth
Children and youth are encouraged to attend worship regularly with their families. We offer a Children's Time during both services each Sunday. There are activity bags and children's bulletins available during worship. Children are also invited to partake in Holy Communion as a sign of God's grace. As they grow older, they will be taught about the meaning and significance of this Sacrament in age-appropriate classes.
Children / Youth
Pre-K through Elementary
Sunday School will be starting again soon! We will continue to have this between services, so that families can choose their preferred service. Kickoff will be September 15 at 9:45 in the Sunday School Room! Our first burst of lessons will be a 4 weeks long series on the Fruit of the Spirit beginning September 29th.
Blessing of Backpacks
Children and youth are invited to wear their backpacks to worship on Sunday, August 25th. During worship a special blessing is given for students.
GRADES 4-6— REEL FAITH
We are partnering with Hope Lutheran to offer “First Fridays” for our 4-6th graders. Beginning October 4th, the group will meet from 6:30-8:00 on the first Friday of each month.
Children of reading age are invited to receive a Bible in worship and participate in learning from the Bible with their families over several weeks.
Bring your Grandkids to Church
In September grandparents were encouraged to bring their grandkids to worship and participate in several faith formation stations in the courtyard.
In November children will engage in a session with their families about gratitude and giving, and encouraged to bring food donations for our "Feed my Sheep" food bank supplies.
Getting Ready for Christmas
During the season of Advent, families come together to prepare for Jesus' coming with a lesson and activity.

Middle School / Confirmation
Confirmation is a three year program with classes monthly during the school year for 7th, 8th and 9th graders to prepare for Affirmation of Baptism as they learn and grow in the Christian faith. Immanuel participates in a Cooperative Confirmation ministry with other Treasure Valley ELCA churches, believing that we can enhance faith development far more together than we can do as individual congregations. Our Kick Off for the 2019-2020 year is on August 18th with a Fall Retreat on September 13-15th. There will also be a Parenting Group for discussion and support at the same time as the Sunday gatherings.
Children and Youth
Many of Immanuel's ministries welcome participation by our high school students. In addition, there is an annual High School Retreat at Luther Heights Bible Camp for those in the Treasure Valley.
Typically high school youth also go on a mission trip during the summer. Past trips have been to the Navajo Nation in Arizona and the Bay Area in California. Every three years our youth participate in the ELCA National Gathering. In 2018 six of our youth went to Houston for "This Changes Everything!" Gathering.
At the conclusion of high school we honor our graduates on Senior Blessing Sunday. They are recognized during a worship service in May as we send them off with our prayers and good wishes, along with a tangible reminder of their church family.
Weekly Bible Study is offered by Pastor Gretchen on Tuesday mornings at 10:30am in the Library. All are welcome to study the readings for the upcoming Sunday, which include selections from both the Old and New Testaments. The coffee pot is always on, and sometimes participants bring treats to share. Come and dwell in God's Word, whether the Bible is a life-long companion or a brand new book to you.
Bible study is also part of other small groups at Immanuel such as our women's groups.
For more information, please contact Pastor Gretchen at or 208-344-3011.
The common purpose of the WOMEN of the ELCA is: "As a community of women created in the image of God, called to discipleship in Jesus Christ, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we commit ourselves to grow in faith, affirm our gifts, support one another in our callings, engage in ministry and action, and promote healing and wholeness in the church, the society, and the world."
